The Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce a major conference on April 4th and 5th at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The theme of the event, "Reassessing the Foreign Language Curriculum in the Age of Globalization: Responses to the MLA Report on Foreign Languages and Higher Education," makes reference to the report of the MLA's ad hoc Committee on Foreign Languages which appeared this past May. The program will feature presentations by Scott McGinnis of the Defense Language Institute, Clara Yu of Monterey Institute of International Studies, Hans Lauge Hansen of Aarhus University, Elizabeth Welles, formerly with the MLA, Damon Rarick of the University of Rhode Island, Roger Allen of Penn, Rick Donato of the University of Pittsburgh, and Katherine Arens of the University of Texas. There will also be a panel highlighting initiatives at Consortium schools. The keynote speaker at a banquet Friday evening will be the well-known Chinese-American novelist, Ha Jin.
